The heart chakra is the fourth chakra in the human energy system. It is through this energy center that love and connect to others and ourselves. Our heart is directly effects our relationships. Another name for the heart chakra is Anahata, which means unstruck or unhurt. This chakra is asscoicated with the planet Venus. The planet of love and beauty. The symbol of the heart chakra is a twelve petal lotus with a circle in the middle, commonly depicted with downward triangle overlapping an upward triangle. The symbol is a six pointed star called a shatkona. The Anahata is associated with the fourth element, air. Like air the heart chakra deals with ones openness and free flowing energy.

The sound of the heart chakra is YAM, the musical note is F. This chakra is associated the colors green and pink. The Anahata chakra is located at the center of the chest, and associated with the heart, lungs, and circulatory system. It is also associated with the shoulders and upper back. A critical part of balanced heart chakra is a healthy relationship with ones self and healthy boundaries with others. When this chakra is healthy, you love yourself, and are open to giving and receiving love from the people around you.

A quick way to access the fourth chakra is being honest with your emotions. When we are not honest with our emotions our heart chakra becomes blocked. This makes it difficult to be honest with our selves and others, blocking our self from love and compassion. When this chakra is out of balance we began to feel depressed and disconnect from our emotions and our connection with others.

An example of a blocked heart chakra would be becoming closed off and easily emotional, when before they were open and loving. When this chakra is blocked we feel like our joy is blocked. When a heart chakra is overactive one might take on others emotions and suffering, being too compassionate and the expense of themselves. We must have healthy boundaries with others. When the heart chakra is out of balanced, it results in issues relating to the heart and blood. Including, lung and breathing issues, circulatory issues, and all that comes with an unhealthy heart, like heart attacks. Would you like to keep your heart chakra healthy? In my experience with the heart chakra, I've felt the heart chakra become closed when there has been trauma inflicted or you have been in unsafe environments. This will cause discord in how we build and react in relationships. For example, when we close our heart to others we receive less, resulting in a perpetual cycle of hurt and confusion. The heart chakra is very close to the throat chakra. When these chakras are in balance this provides effective flow of communication our emotions resulting balanced relationships.

In order to receive love you must first love yourself. My favorite thing to do to heal the heart chakra is to express love, gratitude and joy. The more you express yourself with love and compassion towards your self and others- and the more you are able to connect with your heart and your true emotions. Expressing honest compliments, positive affirmations, and gratitude helps us align with are open-hearted nature. This can also happen when we hug eachother. The heart chakra reminds you to be vulnerable, to express and embrace your true emotions. Be true to your heart.

The solar plexus chakra is the third chakra in the energy system.

In this energy center is our personal power, our willpower. This effects our decision-making, ability to act and to be consistent and determined. Another name for the solar plexus chakra is Manipura. The meaning of Manipura is city of jewels, mani meaning jewels and pura which translates city of or place of. This gives gives us a nice visual of this chakra. It has also been called the power chakra or power center. This chakra is associated with the Sun and zodiac sign Leo. Sun symbolizes the self. In some languages it is called Sol, like the word soul. The symbol of the solar plexus chakra is a ten petal lotus with a downward triangle in the middle. The Manipura is associated with the third element, fire. Similar to fire, the solar chakra deals with ones inner fire and life-force energy.

The third chakra is associated with transformation, generosity, charisma and presence. To strengthen the solar plexus chakra, chant RAM. The musical note assigned to this chakra is E. The Manipura is associated the colors yellow and gold and is located beneath the rib cage at the diaphragm. It is associated with the surrounding organs such as; pancreas, liver, bladder, stomach, mid-upper spine, digestive system and the adrenal glands. The pancreas helps regulates metabolism, so unbalanced solar plexus chakra can effect our weight, wether it be gaining weight or not being able to gain weight. A critical part of balanced solar plexus chakra is a healthy give and take from others. When this chakra is healthy, you are in your power and you feel strong and supported. You might come into third chakras issues when you are feeling powerless or subject to outside control and influence.

A quick way to help the third chakra is to take responsibility for yourself.

All of the things that have happened before, are happening now, and are going to happen- are in your power- it is now your responsibility. When you take back the power over your life, then you take back the decision making. Once you are no longer in a victim state you can start to call your power back. This can happen in any type of relationship when someone controls or has power over you. When you stand up for your self and create boundaries it creates more willpower. When we define what we want and what we don't we strengthen the third chakra. On the contrary, when our willpower is weak we may have trouble determining what we want or be confused about decision making. This makes us feel restless, anxious and dissatisfied. This can also manifest as control issues.

An example of a blocked solar plexus chakra is depression and sluggishness.

When this chakra is blocked we feel like our life-force is blocked. When a solar plexus chakra is overactive one might be over-powering, over-bearing and even harm others around them by abusing power. We need to be respectful of ourselves and others. We are responsible for having our own energy in-check. It is important not spill our energy over other's energy. When the solar plexus chakra is out of balanced, it results in issues relating to the metabolism, the adrenals and digestive system. Including, pancreas and stomach issues. How do you keep your fire burning strong and balanced? The best way to heal your solar plexus is to trust, trust yourself and your soul's journey.

We can use different mantras to help us open our solar plexus chakra such as:

I make my own decisions with confidence and conviction

Chant RAM

In my own experience with the solar plexus chakra, I have found that it can be easily taken advantage of when you are around a narcissistic type energy or when you are being treated with disrespect. This can cause discord in how we see ourselves in the world and our perception of ourselves. For example when we lose our power to others we feel as though they have power over us, when it is actually your own power. The more power you give away, the more that person, object, tv series, institution has over you. The solar plexus chakra is highly dependent on the lower two chakras (sacral, root). When the lower two chakras are in balance this provides a stable ground on which to grow and cultivate your power. Ultimately you are in control!

Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames -Rumi

My favorite thing to do to heal the solar plexus chakra is to do or talk about something that I am passionate about. The more you express your excitement, that what makes you burn, the closer you are to your soul and self. Work on a passion project like writing or painting, or try something fun or spontaneous such as going our for a drive, or throwing or attending an event. Find some thing that sets your soul on fire and seek those who fan the flames. Helping others shine and build their power is one of the best ways to strengthen your third charka. The solar plexus chakra reminds you, you are powerful, embrace your passions. You have the power, right now, to do whatever you desire.

The sacral chakra is the second chakra in the energy system.

In this energy center we hold our emotions and our source of creativity. This effects our sexuality, how we express ourselves and we deal with our emotions. Another name for the sacral chakra is Svahisthana. The meaning of Svahisthana is one's home or abode, Swa meanin one's own and Adhisthana which translates to abode or seat. This could also be translated to the seat of the soul. It has also been called the navel chakra, located four fingers above the gentilia. This chakra is associated with the Moon and the water zodiac signs; Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The moon symbolizes the subconscious. Since the moon pulls the tides of the ocean, it is closely associated with water, the feminine, and the cycles of life. The birth, death and rebirth. The symbol of the Sacral chakra is a six petal lotus with two concentric circles that together form a crescent moon shape. The symbol is usually depicted with a VAM symbol. Like the moon, the Svahisthana is associated with the second element, water.

The second chakra is associated with are relationships, emotional needs, and pleasure. The musical note assigned to this chakra is D. The sacral chakra is associated the color orange. It is located beneath the naval. It is also related with the surrounding organs; the reproduction system and large intestine. As well as all fluids in the body, circulation of blood, hips, pelvis, sacrum, kidneys and lower back. When we hold in our emotions it might show as weight gain in the stomach area resulting in lower back pain. A critical part of balanced sacral chakra is a healthy emotional boundaries with others and having a strong connection to your true feelings. When this chakra is healthy, we feel balanced and easy going. You keep nothing a secret and you don't hide things from yourself. You can come into issues with this charka is you are unable to express your emotions. This is why I link the sacral chakra closely with the throat chakra.

A quick way to strengthen your connection to the second chakra is being honest with your emotions.

When you are able to listen to your gut you are in tune with your body, you tune into your emotions. This helps you make the right decisions and place your energy on the right track. Once you are able to be honest with your self you are able to express your true emotions, which may surprise you if you have had issues with this chakra. When you have been in situations where you can't express your self or have to find your feelings, this causes this chakra to close and become inactive and weak. When you listen to your body and the subtle directions of your spirit you can bring balance to your life and your relationships. This then builds a healthy foundation for the higher chakras to thrive. When when we are not in tune with our emotions we might have a hard time standing in our power, opening our heart to love, or communicating openly. On the contrary when we are in tune with our emotions we feel calm, cool, and collected. When you are in tune with yourself you know you are at home where ever you are.

An example of a blocked sacral chakra is violence and addiction.

When this chakra is blocked we confused and without direction. We feel out of touch with ourselves and might seek substance abuse or chose relationships that are not in line with our truer self. When a sacral chakra is overactive one might become addicted to drugs and alcohol and/or become highly sexually deviant. We must not ignore our feelings, they matter. Your body is trying to tell you something. When the sacral chakra is out of balanced, it results in issues relating to the reproductive system, bladder and digestive system. Including kidney and spleen malfunction and issues with the hips and pelvis. The best way to heal your sacral chakra is to live life fully, and to express yourself. You are bliss indivisible, allow joy to rise.

Here are some other useful tips to connect with and unlock your sacral chakra.

~wear the color orange, or light an orange candle

~connect with water, the ocean, a lake, or even simply take a bath or shower

~practice meditation, focus on the sacral chakra and imagine the color orange

We can use different mantras to help us strengthen our sacral chakra such as:

I live life passionately

I am in good health and vitality

I am confident

I am achieving my dreams

I love my life

I am joyful and I am blessed

Chant VAM

I love all dimensions of myself

In my own experience with the sacral chakra, I have found that it can be easily manipulated through sexual and emotional abuse. This can cause discord in the relationship with ones self. For example, when we are not in tune with our emotions we might have a hard time seeing ourselves accurately. This might cause issues with body dysmorphia and emotional out-bursts. The sacral chakra can be highly damaged when there has been sexual trauma. Be patient with yourself and continue to forgive and love every part of yourself. It helps to forgive those who may have harmed you or suppressed your emotions. When the lower chakra, the root, is in balance provides a stable ground on which to grow and cultivate balanced and stable emotions.

Love is the water of life. Jump into this water. -Rumi

My favorite thing to do to heal the sacral chakra is to connect with water. For example, swimming in the ocean or taking a bath with candles and rose petals, or putting you hands and feet in a flowing stream or lake. Allow your self to be held, float on top of the water, whether be an ocean or a pool. Allow your self to flow like water. Allow your self to feel, to cry. The sacral chakra reminds us we are connected to something deeper. Explore the inner depths of your soul though connecting with your emotions.. As you connect with yourself you are able to go deeper into your relationships and your creative self-expression.
